The Moon Sighting Committee in the UAE has announced that Monday, 11 March, will be marked as the first day of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
On Sunday, 10 March, the moon-sighting committee held a meeting after the Magrib prayer at the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department and announced the start of Ramadan.
Sunday, 10 March is the last day of Sha'ban and Monday, 11 March is the first day of Ramadan.
The Holy Month of Ramadan follows the lunar cycle and lasts for either 29 or 30 days, and Muslims around the world will fast for the whole month during daylight hours. The fast ends at dusk each day during the Holy Month of Ramadan at Magrib prayers, which are followed by Iftar.
