WAM

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has been awarded a Dhs 700 million contract for significant enhancements on Al Khail Road. This move aligns with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to expand the road network infrastructure to accommodate the city's ongoing expansion and meet urban and demographic requirements for smooth traffic flow. The project is overseen by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council.

The project involves building bridges spanning 3,300 metres and improving roads covering 6,820 metres along Al Khail Road in various locations, including Zabeel, Meydan, Al Quoz 1, Ghadeer Al Tair, and Jumeirah Village Circle. It also aims to increase the capacity of intersections and bridges by around 19,600 vehicles per hour to enhance traffic flow, reduce congestion, and decrease travel times by 30%.

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority, said, “Al Khail Road Improvement Project stands out among the strategic projects aimed to enhance the capacity of roads that run parallel to and support Sheikh Zayed Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road. Al Khail Road is one of Dubai’s key traffic corridors stretching from Business Bay crossing to its junction with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, encompassing six lanes in each direction.”

Here Are Some Key Areas That Will Be Enhanced

The project focuses on improving spots along Al Khail Road, beginning with Zabeel, specifically between Oud Metha Street and Financial Centre Street intersections. It involves building a 700-metre-long three-lane bridge to handle approximately 4,800 vehicles per hour, connecting traffic from Zabeel Palace Street and Oud Metha Road directly to Al Khail Road towards Abu Dhabi.

Furthermore, the project includes enhancing surface roads spanning 850 metres to connect traffic from Al Khail Road to Financial Centre Street towards Sheikh Zayed Road.

The second location is Meydan along Al Khail Road, positioned between Al Meydan Road and Ras Al Khor Road intersections. Here, the project involves building a 610-metre-long two-lane bridge to handle 3,200 vehicles per hour, connecting traffic from Al Meydan Road to Al Khail Road towards Deira. Additionally, surface road enhancements spanning 1,550 metres will link traffic from Al Khail Road to Ras Al Khor Road.

At the third location in Al Quoz 1 along Al Khail Road, between Al Meydan Road and Al Waha Street intersections, the project involves constructing a 650-metre-long two-lane bridge to handle 3,200 vehicles per hour, connecting traffic from Al Meydan Road to Al Khail Road towards Abu Dhabi.

Moreover, surface road enhancements spanning 2,170 metres will link traffic from Al Khail Road to Al Waha Street and Latifa bint Hamdan Street.

The fourth location is in Ghadeer Al Tair along Al Khail Road, between Al Meydan Road and Latifa Bint Hamdan Street intersections. It includes building a 640-metre-long two-lane bridge with a capacity for 3,200 vehicles per hour, connecting traffic from Latifa Bint Hamdan Street to Al Khail Road towards Deira. Additionally, surface road improvements spanning 1,350 metres will link traffic from Al Khail Road to Al Meydan Road.

The fifth area of the project is located in Jumeirah Village Circle along Al Khail Road, between Hessa Street and Al Khamila Street. Construction includes a 700-metre-long two-lane bridge that can handle 3,200 vehicles per hour, connecting traffic from Al Khail Road to Hessa Street. Furthermore, upgrades to 900 metres of surface roads will improve traffic flow from Jumeirah Village Circle to Al Khail Road towards Deira.

At the sixth location, the project involves widening the surface of Al Khail Road in Al Jaddaf by adding a new lane. It will improve traffic flow towards Deira, increasing the road's capacity by about 2,000 vehicles per hour.

At the seventh location, the project includes widening the surface of Al Khail Road at the entrance to Business Bay by adding an extra lane. It will ensure smoother traffic flow to the Business Bay area from Al Khail Road and enhance safety for vehicles travelling towards Abu Dhabi.
