Dubai International Airport (DXB) is cautioning passengers about fraudulent activities on social media platforms, specifically Facebook and Instagram. The airport issued a scam alert, emphasising that it does not sell lost luggage and warning travellers against engaging with 'fake profiles' making such claims. DXB shared on social media, "We want you to know it’s not us. We’re here for take-offs, not rip-offs," and advised vigilance against clicking on suspicious offers.
The alert was prompted by the emergence of pages falsely representing DXB on social media, purportedly selling lost luggage at low prices, starting from Dhs 8. The alleged scam involves the clearance of unclaimed luggage from the airport warehouse, suggesting items have been left for over six months.
It's crucial for the public to be aware of this hoax, as DXB has affirmed that it never engages in such activities. Despite the deceptive claims, DXB continues to uphold its status as the world’s busiest airport, handling a remarkable number of bags annually. dnata, responsible for baggage movement at DXB, reported that over 82 million bags were processed through its terminals in 2022, with an average of 2.7 million bags transported monthly from September 2023 to January 2024 to 140 global destinations.
If you've misplaced personal items at DXB, reach out to the airport's lost and found contact number at 04-2245383, available 24/7. Alternatively, for items lost on your flight or within the terminal, contact the airport's general information number at 04-2245555 or complete a lost item form. Alternatively, at the airport, you can head to the lost and found office in the lower levels of Terminals 1 and 3 departures.
