Following the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has formed a strategic partnership with Shamal Holding, a prominent investment firm. This collaboration aims to enhance the city's road infrastructure to accommodate the urban expansion and population growth. As part of this agreement, the RTA will oversee the construction of a two-lane bridge in each direction, spanning 1,500 metres, connecting Sheikh Zayed Road to Dubai Harbour. The initiative is under the supervision of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council.
The upcoming bridge aims to facilitate the entry and exit of visitors and residents to Dubai Harbour directly. Spanning 1,500 metres, it will have a capacity to handle 6,000 vehicles per hour. The bridge will connect from the fifth intersection on Sheikh Zayed Road (near the American University in Dubai) to Dubai Harbour Street. It will pass through the intersection of Al Naseem Street with Al Falak Street and traverse the intersection of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street, extending all the way to Dubai Harbour.
Additionally, the project contains surface improvements at four key intersections along the bridge. These include the fifth intersection on Sheikh Zayed Road, the junction of Al Falak Street with Al Naseem Street, the intersection of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street with Al Naseem Street, and Dubai Harbour Street. Once finished, the initiative is expected to optimise traffic flow, significantly cutting down travel time from 12 minutes to just 3 minutes.
