The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has successfully finished the Algeria Street Improvement Project, spanning 2km from the Algeria Street and Al Khawaneej Street (South) junction to the Tunis Street (North) intersection at Al Muhaisnah (1) and Al Mizhar (1). This initiative is part of RTA's ongoing commitment to enhance the city's road infrastructure, optimise traffic flow, and cater to the growing population in surrounding residential areas. These enhancements aim to advance road quality and slash travel times from Al Khawaneej Street to Tunis Street from 15 minutes to just 7 minutes during peak hours, resulting in a significant reduction of over 50%.

Hamad Al Shehhi, Director of Roads, Traffic and Roads Agency, RTA said, "The scope of the project includes widening Algeria Street from the intersection of Street 11 near Al Khawaneej Street up to the intersection with Tunis Street as well as Streets 27 and 31. Works included increasing the number of lanes of Algeria Street from two to three lanes in each direction. As such, the road's capacity grew from 6,000 vehicles to 9,000 vehicles per hour in both directions."

The project involves converting the existing roundabout into a signalised junction, facilitating left turns and better catering to the residential communities of Muhaisnah and Al Mizhar. Algeria Street underwent enhancements, featuring cycling tracks and dedicated pedestrian zones on its left side from Street 11 to Street 27 and on the right side from Street 27 to Tunis Street.

The initiative also includes the construction of a service road along both sides of Algeria Street, connecting to the service roads for Streets 27 and 31. Moreover, parallel parking spaces for villas on both sides and angled parking areas near the junction of Algeria Street with Streets 27 and 31 have been provided as part of the works.
