Dhs 400 Fine Announced In Both Directions On Major Abu Dhabi Highway

Abu Dhabi Police has clarified that the 'minimum speed' of 120kph, effective on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Road from April 2023, is applicable to traffic in both directions. The maximum speed allowed on the highway is 140kph, and the minimum speed of 120kph pertains to the two fast lanes (first and second lanes from the left).

Violators of the 'minimum speed' rule in the fast lanes will face a Dhs 400 fine. This rule does not extend to the third and last lanes, allowing slower-moving vehicles to use them without restrictions. Heavy vehicles in the last lane are exempt from the minimum speed requirement.

The objective is to maintain driver safety by ensuring slower vehicles use the right lanes, yielding to faster-moving vehicles approaching from behind or the left. This initiative aims to enhance traffic flow safety and efficiency.

Drivers are requested to exercise caution and refrain from unnecessary lane changes, and only switch lanes when there is sufficient distance for safe movement. Following these guidelines contributes to a safer road environment for all.
