Dubai is solidifying its status as one of the world's most modern cities, with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) taking significant steps in the development of cutting-edge transportation systems. The RTA recently inked two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) during the Dubai International Project Management Forum (DIPMF), aiming to explore innovative transport solutions.
The first MoU focuses on evaluating the potential of the Floc Duo Rail system, a double-track framework designed to facilitate swift and efficient movement of transportation units. The second MoU delves into the possibility of creating a rail bus system, featuring vehicles operating on a bridge equipped with solar panels to generate the necessary electricity.
These agreements were sealed with two specialised companies renowned for their expertise in developing and manufacturing transportation systems, as well as designing mass transportation solutions with zero emissions. The UK-based company, Urban.MASS and RAIL BUS Inc., based in the US, were the key players in these partnerships. Abdul Mohsen Kalbat, the CEO of the Rail Agency at RTA, signed the MoUs alongside Ricky Sandhu, Founder and CEO of Urban.MASS, and Dr. Hatem Al-Taher Ibrahim, the Director of Business Development at RAIL BUS Inc.
According to Kalbat, the signing of these MoUs aligns with RTA's strategic plans to collaborate with leading companies in the transportation sector, adopting advanced practices. The Floc Duo Rail system, the first innovation under consideration, is a driverless, electric-powered system with double tracks, ensuring efficient transportation in urban areas. The system employs short units during low peak periods and longer units during high peak periods, catering effectively to the emirate's diverse transportation needs.
The second novel transportation system, proposed by Urban.MASS, features vehicles operating on a bridge equipped with solar panels. This sustainable solution harnesses solar energy to power the system, exemplifying a contemporary design while offering cost advantages compared to similar transportation systems.
These endeavours reflect RTA's commitment to sustainable development and enhancing the city's quality of life. By embracing the latest technologies and innovations in transportation, RTA aims to improve the overall passenger experience in the Emirate of Dubai. The strategic approach underscores the city's determination to stay at the forefront of global urban development, setting a precedent for modern, efficient, and eco-friendly transportation systems.
