His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, has authorised the installation of a specialised medical city dedicated to women and children’s health in Abu Dhabi.
Once established, the medical city will have Sheikh Khalifa Medical City as a Centre of Excellence for paediatric care, the Corniche Hospital dedicated to women and newborns’ health, a rehabilitation facility, and a mental health centre for women and children.
His Highness Sheikh Khaled highlighted that the medical city plans, presented by the Department of Health, Abu Dhabi and PureHealth, are a substantial addition to Abu Dhabi's healthcare infrastructure. The initiative aims to strengthen the capital's position as a leading healthcare destination by incorporating modern technology and research capabilities into an integrated and preventive healthcare system.
His Highness Sheikh Khaled was also briefed on the Sheikh Khalifa Medical City's plan to establish a Centre of Excellence in paediatric care.
The Centre of Excellence in paediatric care, part of the medical city, will improve healthcare services for children. It will have over 200 doctors specialising in 29 fields, including oncology, ophthalmology, neurosurgery, transplantation, gastroenterology, and cardiac medicine, providing exceptional care to patients from the UAE and globally.
Besides this, the Centre of Excellence will contain 250 beds, including facilities for mental health services and long-term paediatric healthcare. It aims to advance research and innovation in children's health, developing modern treatments for complex health challenges.
The new hospital, scheduled to open in 2027, will offer specialised care in obstetrics, gynaecology, fertility, and women's mental and general health.
The medical city will also house the Salma Children’s Rehabilitation Hospital and a centre for women and children’s mental health.
