Aligned with the visionary leadership and reflecting the UAE's global commitment to climate action and sustainability, exemplified by hosting COP28, the Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) has unveiled a new Dhs 500 polymer banknote. As part of the third issuance of the national currency project, this banknote features unique designs and state-of-the-art security features. The launch, coinciding with the nation's 52nd Union Day celebrations, underscores the UAE's dedication to innovation, environmental responsibility and its pivotal role in shaping a sustainable future on the global stage.
The design of the new Dhs 500 note encapsulates the UAE's commitment to sustainability, showcasing its pioneering development approach, global influence, track record in climate action, and unwavering dedication to advancing sustainable solutions.
On the front side, the new Dhs 500 note features the striking architecture of Expo City Dubai's Terra Sustainability Pavilion, symbolising the UAE's dedication to a sustainable future inspired by the principles established by the late His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The imagery on the note pays homage to the nation's commitment to environmental responsibility.
The back of the Dhs 500 polymer banknote showcases the Museum of the Future in Dubai. Additionally, iconic landmarks such as Emirates Towers and the Burj Khalifa adorn the reverse side.
The New Note Feature
Crafted in shades of blue tones, the CBUAE has chosen polymer for the new banknote, enhancing durability of double or more times compared to traditional notes. This fully recyclable material significantly minimises its environmental impact. The reverse side features fluorescent blue markings that represent the UAE nation brand, complemented by intricate drawings and engravings utilising advanced intaglio printing techniques.
The Dhs 500 banknote introduces cutting-edge security with Kinegram Colours, a multi-coloured security chip technology, marking the UAE as the first in the Middle East to incorporate the largest foil strip of its kind on banknotes.
When Can You Get The New Note
Starting today, Thursday, 30 November 2023, the new banknote is officially in circulation. All banks and exchange houses have received instructions to update their cash deposit machines and counting devices, ensuring the smooth acceptance of this new banknote alongside the existing paper and polymer notes, all of which carry guaranteed value by law.
