Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the primary route partner of the Conference of the Parties (COP28), has developed an extensive participation strategy for the conference scheduled at Expo City Dubai from 30 November to 12 December 2023. This plan is being executed in collaboration with the Office of the Special Envoy for Climate Change of the UAE and Expo City Dubai.
RTA is set to participate in various initiatives within the Blue Zone (official delegations) and the Green Zone (businesses and the public), along with involvement in the Conference Of Youth (COY18) at COP28. Additionally, RTA will offer eco-friendly transportation options for reaching the event site and facilitating internal mobility.
RTA is dedicated to ensuring the success of this global event. To support this goal, RTA has introduced extended metro timings, new bus lines, road signs, and additional services for attendees of COP 28.
Metro Timings
Those attending COP28 can reach the venue conveniently by utilising the Dubai Metro, specifically the Expo 2020 Metro Station. The Dubai Metro is the most environmentally sustainable and convenient transportation choice for reaching the event. RTA has extended the metro operating hours from 5am to 1am the following day throughout the duration of COP28. Moreover, complimentary multi-level car parking is offered at stations like Centrepoint, Etisalat by e&, and Jebel Ali Station for public transport users.
Buses
RTA is set to utilise 67 buses powered by biofuel with an additional 10 electric buses to cater to visitors at Expo City Dubai. Furthermore, RTA has introduced new bus routes designed to transport delegates and organisers to crucial locations like JBR, Mall of the Emirates, Ibn Battuta Mall, and other key areas in the Emirate, ensuring convenient mobility beyond the operational hours of the metro.
Taxis
Dubai's transportation sector features a fleet of more than 10,000 hybrid taxis and 1,000 luxury electric vehicles. The public can easily hail these vehicles within Expo City Dubai using the Hala Taxi platform, while those seeking luxury rides can choose services from Uber, Careem, and Yango. Within Expo City, four designated ranks (stops) at strategic entrances, Opportunity Gate, Mobility Gate, Sustainability Gate, and the Metro Gate, are allocated for these vehicles.
Sign Boards
To aid visitors and participants in finding their way to the conference site, RTA has installed more than 100 directional road signs.
