Emirates Airline on day one of the Dubai Airshow 2023 signed a substantial order for 95 more wide-body aircraft, bringing its overall order tally to 295 planes. As the world's largest operator of wide-body passenger aircraft, Emirates has committed to acquire additional Boeing 777-9s, 777-8s, and 787s, amounting to a total investment of US$ 52 billion.

This strategic move is aimed at fuelling its expansion plans, maintaining a modern and efficient fleet, and ensuring an optimal flying experience for its customers. Emirates has officially placed an order for 202 GE9X engines to propel the newly ordered 777X aircraft, bringing its total GE9X engine order to 460 units.

Besides this, following its initial order for 115 units, Emirates anticipates the arrival of the first 777-9 in its fleet by 2025. The latest orders announced today extend the induction of new 777-9s into the Emirates fleet until 2035. Additionally, with this recent order, Emirates is poised to become one of the debut customers for the 777-8 passenger variant, with initial deliveries slated for 2030.

The orders were signed by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group; with Stan Deal, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes; and Larry Culp, Chairman and CEO of General Electric, and CEO of General Electric Aerospace.

On this, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed said, "From day 1, Emirates’ business model has been to operate modern and efficient wide-body aircraft capable of carrying large numbers of travellers comfortably and safely, over long distances to and via Dubai. These additional aircraft will enable Emirates to connect even more cities, supporting the Dubai economic agenda D33 set out by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to add 400 cities to Dubai’s foreign trade map over the next decade. By the early 2030s, we expect the Emirates fleet to be around 350-strong, connecting Dubai to even more cities around the world."
