Under the directives issued by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE, Abu Dhabi International Airport is set to undergo a name change. The airport's new official name, Zayed International Airport, will be implemented on 9 February 2024, in conjunction with the official inauguration of the new Terminal A.
His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, toured the new terminal on 31 October, ahead of its opening. The Abu Dhabi Media Office reported that he emphasised the project's crucial role in advancing the emirate's economic and sustainable development. His Highness Sheikh Khaled highlighted the significance of ongoing investments to bolster the tourism and aviation industries.
When it comes to the new Terminal A, is a major project that will help boost Abu Dhabi's global standing. Three times the size of the old terminal, and with flights to 117 destinations globally, Terminal A will increase the frequency and reach of flights to and from Abu Dhabi, airport officials have said.
The transition of airlines to Terminal A will occur in three phases during two weeks. Starting 1 November, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi and 15 other international airlines will operate from the new terminal.
From 9 November, Etihad Airways will operate 16 daily flights, before going fully operational on 14 November, together with Air Arabia Abu Dhabi and 10 other airlines. From 14 November, 28 airlines will be fully operational from Terminal A.
