The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has introduced several innovations at GITEX 2023. One of the newest additions is the implementation of AI-powered technology for monitoring and evaluating the performance of delivery bike riders in Dubai.
This advanced technology was showcased at GITEX, and its primary goal is to enhance the safety of both delivery bike riders and other road users in Dubai. The initiative aligns with RTA's strategic plan of integrating artificial intelligence solutions to improve its overall operations.
In collaboration with private companies, RTA has introduced an initiative that uses advanced technology to monitor potential violations by delivery bike riders. To make this happen, RTA has deployed a special vehicle equipped with AI-powered cameras.
RTA's inspection teams checked 608 delivery bikes and found 63 cases where violations were noted. These violations included issues like not wearing the required uniform, missing side stickers, lacking reflective stickers, parking in forbidden areas, carrying passengers behind the driver, and damage to the bike's storage area.
Thanks to AI-driven operations, RTA achieved several significant outcomes. These include reducing inspection time from seven and a half minutes to just one minute and increasing daily inspections by fivefold using AI-equipped vehicles and smart cameras. This was made possible by deploying the vehicle on different streets throughout the emirate and utilising a heat map to identify rider assembly points, as well as categorising the level of risk in those areas based on reported incidents.
