Dubai has witnessed 107 accidents in the past eight months, resulting in over 75 injuries, including two severe cases, 44 moderate injuries, and 29 minor injuries, with three deaths, according to data shared by Dubai Police. In addition, their smart traffic monitoring systems and radars logged 529,735 lane violations from January to August 2023. The primary cause of these accidents is lane violations.
Dubai Police have issued a grim reminder to drivers to adhere to lane regulations. Those failing to do so face a fine of Dhs 400. Moreover, specific lanes reserved for buses and taxis should only be used by designated vehicles; any violation in this regard will also incur penalties.
Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, emphasized that reckless lane changes, especially near intersections or highway exits, have been observed, and these actions, captured by extensive smart surveillance systems, can lead to severe accidents.
He pointed out that under the amended executive regulations of the Traffic and Road Law, light vehicle drivers not following the mandatory lanes are liable to a fine of Dhs 400. Maj. Gen Al Mazrouei concluded by urging all drivers to consistently adhere to the designated traffic lanes, preventing serious accidents and avoiding penalties.
