Dubai never fails to amaze us with its stunning architecture and spell-binding attractions. With that said, the emirate is all set to get the world's first floating mosque. The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) announced this news on Thursday, 21 September, during a press conference held at their headquarters. The floating mosque is set to open by 2024 and is being built at Dubai Water Canal by IACAD.
The floating mosque will welcome individuals of all religious backgrounds but will kindly request that visitors adhere to modest dress in accordance with Islamic traditions. Female visitors will be expected to cover their heads and shoulders when entering the mosque.
In terms of design, the floating mosque will have three floors; the prayer hall will be underwater and accommodate 50 to 75 worshippers at one time, whereas the two floors, set above water, will be for Islamic lectures, exhibits and workshops. Besides this, the IACAD is also working on building the world's first fully functional 3D-printed mosque. The 3D mosque is expected to open in the first half of 2025.
Spread across 2,000 square metres, the 3D mosque will be located in Bur Dubai and accommodate 600 worshippers at any given time. Stay tuned, all the updates about the 3D mosque and floating mosque will be out soon.
