Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that 16 truck rest stops and three lay-bys will be constructed around Dubai.
The 16 truck rest stops will be situated in six locations including Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Emirates Road, Dubai to Hatta Road, Dubai to Al Ain Road, Jebel Ali to Lehbab Road, and Al Aweer Road, and will be able to accommodate around 40 trucks. The rest stops include service facilities, prayer rooms, diesel refuelling stations, restaurants, maintenance workshops and rest areas for drivers.
Three lay-bys will be built on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Dubai Industrial City and Emirates Road and will have a capacity for 120 heavy vehicles and trucks.
The lay-bys will ensure the safety and wellbeing of drivers by providing diesel-refuelling stations, motels, maintenance workshops, restaurants, administrative buildings, prayer rooms, driving training centres, clinics, pharmacies, exchange shops, laundry and other support services for drivers.
The truck rest stops and lay-bys will help in improving traffic safety and reducing truck-related accidents by 50%.
