The Michelin Guide, the most reputable culinary grade in the food industry, has launched its first Dubai guide.

Originally launched in 1920 in Paris, the guide is currently found in 38 culinary destinations around the world, and offers residents and tourists a guide to the best restaurants to dine at.

Known for visiting and reviewing restaurants anonymously, judges assess the restaurants on the basis of five criteria, quality of the ingredients, mastery of the cooking, the balance of flavours, the personality of the chef throughout the cuisine and the consistency of the menu as well as the cooking at various times.

Initially launched by awarding restaurants with one star, in 1936 the Michelin stars were launched to have a range of distinctions, with one star awarded to restaurants with high-quality cooking that is worth a stop, two stars for excellent cooking that is worth the detour and three stars awarded for exceptional cooking that is worth a trip to the restaurant.

The first ever Dubai selection was announced today, and 11 restaurants have received Michelin stars, 9 receiving one Michelin star and 2 receiving two Michelin stars.

The 2 restaurants received two Michelin stars are:

  • Il Ristorante - Niki Romito
  • STAY by Yannick Alleno
