Abu Dhabi residents, get ready for the much-anticipated return of the 33rd edition of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF) 2024! Scheduled to take place from 29 April to 5 May at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), this year's fair will showcase the Arab Republic of Egypt as the Guest of Honour. Organised by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC), a part of the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi, the event will kick off with its professional program, including the third edition of the International Congress of Arabic Publishing and Creative Industries.
ALC has announced that Egyptian novelist Naguib Mahfouz will be honoured as the 'Focus Personality' for the Book Fair. Mahfouz made history in 1988 as the first Arab author to win the Nobel Prize for Literature, with his writings translated into many languages. Egypt's vibrant literary heritage, renowned authors, and significant impact on Arab culture and creativity make it a deserving choice to be celebrated as the guest of honour at this event.
One of the innovative initiatives launched by ALC at ADIBF 2024 is the 'Books of the World' program. This initiative highlights exceptional works that have played pivotal roles in shaping human civilisation and have left indelible marks on various cultures. The chosen book for this year's program is 'Kalila and Dimna' by Abdullah Ibn Al Muqaffa.
Alongside the book fair, Louvre Abu Dhabi will host an exciting art exhibition titled 'From Kalila wa Dimna to La Fontaine: Exploring Fables'. This exhibition will complement the literary journey and offer an engaging exploration of fables.
