Dubai Police has arrested 116 beggars during the first half of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
As part of the 'Begging is a Wrong Concept of Compassion' initiative launched, the campaign aims to prevent the public from being exploited during the Holy Month.
Of the arrests made, 59 were males, and 57 were females.
Major General Jamal Salem Al Jallaf added that in one scenario, two brothers, married to two sisters along with a child, have been begging outside a mosque, while pretending to be disabled, after travelling to Dubai on visit visas.
As begging is a harmful act that takes advantage of children and the elderly, individuals are advised to report any acts via the 'Police Eye' service on the Dubai Police App or the call centre on 901.
