Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that the Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) has begun trials to add the Skywell electric vehicle to its fleet.
The trial period for the electric vehicles will last three months and will include testing the vehicle on Dubai roads to assess its features.
While testing new vehicles, the areas looked out for include analysing the operation of each vehicle, maintenance indicators and breakdown rates.
Currently over 11,000 of DTC taxis are environmentally friendly, which accounts for over 70% of the total fleet. DTC aims to add a further 70 environmentally friendly vehicles to the fleet each year, and will test out multiple models of vehicles to cater to the comfort of the passenger.
The addition of the new vehicles is in line with ensuring that public transport is emission-free by 2050.
