The Holy Month of Ramadan is upon us, and one of the main highlights during the month are the Ramadan cannons.
The traditional cannons will be located in several parts of Dubai, and to mark the end of the fasting period, blank cartridges are fired.
For the first time, Expo City Dubai will fire Ramadan cannons, which will be held in front of the Al Wasl Plaza.
Additionally, the cannons will also be situated at Dubai Festival City, Madinat Jumeirah, Hatta Guest House, DAMAC Hills, Uptown Mirdif and the Burj Khalifa.
The Ramadan cannons are a tradition that dates back to the 1960s and were used to mark the time to break the fast, as due to the lack of speaker systems at mosques, people were unable to know when the fasting period would come to an end.
Ramadan is set to run for 29 to 30 days and is a month of prayer and fasting for Muslims around the world.
The Ramadan cannons are set to go off at 6.35pm at the beginning of the Holy Month, with timings towards the end expected at 6.47pm.
