Abu Dhabi Police have arrested a man found trying to smuggle 4.5 million capsules of 'Captagon' inside tins of food.
The arrest, carried out by the Abu Dhabi Police anti-drug team, began with tracking the movement of the suspect after receiving a tip-off from a source about the plan to smuggle the capsules from Abu Dhabi to another country.
The anti-drug team then monitored the movement of the containers, which arrived as cans of green beans.
The arrest was later made at the warehouse when the empty cans were used to smuggle drugs.
Captagon are highly addictive pills, banned in the UAE, that when taken in small doses, cause the individual to experience an elevated heart rate, body temperature and blood pressure.
Over time, the use of the pills can lead to depression, sleep deprivation, malnutrition and more.
