Sheikh Mohammed Sends Aid To Syria

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has sent urgent humanitarian aid of Dhs 50 million to Syria.

In light of the devastating earthquakes that took place on Monday in Turkey and Syria, many were left displaced and without resources.

The aid sent will be in the form of ration parcels through the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed assured that the UAE will help the country in overcoming this difficult time.

Additionally, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, offered immediate aid by arranging search and rescue teams in Turkey and Syria as well as setting up field hospitals in Turkey to help people affected.

On 6 February, two earthquakes hit Turkey and Syria, the first earthquake, felt in the morning, measured a 7.8 on the Richter scale with its epicentre in the city of Gaziantep in southern Turkey, and less than 100 kilometres from Aleppo in Syria.

The second earthquake was felt in the afternoon measuring a 7.5 on the Richter scale.

Around 4,300 people have been reported to be killed and still expected to rise, with the death toll reaching around 2,900 in Turkey and 1,400 in Syria.
