Emirates today operated the first successful flight with one engine powered by 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
The Boeing 777-300ER plane flew from Dubai International Airport and was in the sky for over an hour across the emirate's coastline and was flown by Captain Fali Vajifdar and Captain Khalid Nasser Akram.
The tester flight has been operated after the successful ground engine trial of sustainable fuel last week, which aims to increase sustainability by reducing the carbon emissions from flights by 80%.
SAF has currently been approved for use in all aircraft but only in blends of up to 50% with conventional jet fuel.
