The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment has announced that the UAE ranked highly on the Global Food Security Index (GFSI) 2022.

The UAE ranked first place in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and 23rd on the global scale, with an increase of 12 points from 2021.

In the MENA region, the UAE ranked first in the overall food security index and in the food availability indicator, and second in food quality and safety.

On the global level, the UAE ranked seventh in food availability, and 16th in food safety and quality.

The annual GFSI records measure the yearly changes in the structural factors that affect food security and consider several metrics, including food cost, availability, quality and safety as well as natural resources and resilience across 113 nations.

Additionally, the UAE aims to be ranked the highest on the GFSI by 2051.

The National Food Security Strategy 2051 aims to develop sustainable food systems by using modern technologies, supporting local production, building international partnerships to diversify food sources, and enacting laws and policies to improve nutrition and reduce food waste.
