Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) through its EV Green Charger initiative, has provided over 8,800 megawatt-hours of electricity to charge electric vehicles since 2015.
As there has been an increase in the number of electric vehicles due to their benefits in contributing to a sustainable environment, around 58 million kilometres were reached in the eco-friendly vehicles.
Additionally, there has been a reduction in refuelling costs by 73%.
On 31 December 2015, there were 71 registered electric vehicles and the number increased to 5,107 vehicles registered on 31 January 2022.
The DEWA EV Green Charger network has 325 charging stations, with over 560 charge points in Dubai.
The successful campaign has received a 97% customer happiness rating and a 93% satisfaction rating for the quality of service in 2021.
The switch to electric vehicles is in line with offering more sustainable modes of transport to residents in Dubai and will help in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from cars.
