Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and the General HQ of Dubai Police have announced that electric scooters will now be allowed to be used on cycling tracks in 10 different locations.
The change will take into effect on 13 April.
The cycling tracks permitted are at Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Dubai Internet City, Al Rigga, 2nd December Street, Palm Jumeirah and City Walk.
Safe roads and tracks within specific zones at Al Qusais, Al Mankhool and Al Karama as well as the 167km long tracks designated for bicycles and scooters across Dubai are also permitted.
An awareness campaign will also be launched to educate scooter riders about the regulations and the areas available for use.
Additionally, an e-scooter permit is required to ride in the designated areas.
Individuals with vehicle driving licenses, international driving licenses or motorcycle driving licenses are not required to obtain a permit.
Parking for e-scooters has been allotted near public transport stations as well as at tourist attractions and should only be parked in the allotted areas.
Parking in any other area will result in a Dhs 200 fine.
