In a continued drive to turn Dubai into a cycle-friendly city, the first phase to create a mountain bike track at Mushrif National Park has been completed.

The tracks were created under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai.

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan was also the first to test out the mountain biking tracks.

The mountain bike track is the first of its kind to be built by Dubai Municipality and has completed the creation of the green and the blue track, spanning 20 km.

The second phase will see the addition of the red and black track.

The track can accommodate 3,000 cyclists a day and the start and end of the track are situated at the same point, with three quick return lanes also created.

The colour-coded tracks are designed for different cycling capabilities. The green track is created for beginners with a simple trail and blue offers intermediate cyclists and mountain bikers with basic skills with a moderately challenging path.

The red track will offer highly skilled mountain bikers with a tougher trail and the black track will be an extremely challenging path, designed for expert cyclists with high levels of fitness.

Cyclists can use a digital map to track their location and route, with 124 signage boards installed.

His Excellency Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality said, "The mountain bike track meets the highest global benchmarks and has been built to align with the terrain of the area and meet the requirements of both amateur and professional users. The project will support Dubai’s broader effort to promote a healthy and sustainable lifestyle in the emirate."
