In preparation for Expo 2020, Dubai Police are learning American Sign Language (ASL) in an effort to assist the hearing-impaired community.
A training programme for ASL has been launched by the Dubai Police General Command and the programme aims to welcome, protect and serve all visitors of Expo 2020, especially people of determination.
The programme was launched along with the Dubai Police Council for People of Determination to teach American Sign Language as well as Arabic to sign language interpreters in Dubai Police.
The initiative will ensure that effective communication will be provided to people of determination.
Brigadier Badran Saeed Al Shamsi, Director of the General Department of Training at Dubai Police, "The programme is also in response to the national policy on empowering people of determination, and the 'My Community, A City for Everyone' initiative which aims at making Dubai a friendly city for people of determination."
The programme is also in line with the Dubai Police 2016/2021 Strategy for people of determination, which aims at providing equal opportunities to all in society.
