Abu Dhabi Art is the first art fair in the world to partner with London’s exhibition space and membership organisation Cromwell Place, for an exhibition event.
The art fair has been organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi.
The artwork featured at Cromwell Place are the art pieces that were created as part of the 'Beyond: Emerging Artists' programme in Abu Dhabi.
The pieces are currently on display untill 13 June.
'Beyond: Emerging Artists' was curated by El-Khalil and first showcased at Manarat Al Saadiyat n 2020.
The pieces are created by Hind Mezaina, Afra Al Dhaheri and Afra Al Suwaidi and focus on the theme of memory. Hind Mezaina will use photography and archival film, to express elements of collective memory, masculinity, heritage, and the UAE. Afra Al Dhaheri uses hair strands that have fallen out in her artwork to draw on broader social associations related to female hair. Afra Al Suwaidi reconstitutes fragmented visual memories of trauma in the form of collages.
UAE-based galleries including Tabari Artspace, Lawrie Shabibi, The Third Line and Isabelle Van Den Eynde have been showcased at the Place.
Tabari Artspace will highlight the transitional moments in adolescence and will feature the works of performance artist Maitha Abdalla.
Contemporary artist, Mohammed Ahmed Ibrahim's work will be showcased by Lawrie Shabibi with Dubai-based galleries, The Third Line and Isabelle Van Den Eynde will present MENA-based artists including Anuar Khalifi, Sara Naim, Sophia Al Maria and Manal Al Dowayan.
