The Abu Dhabi Sports Council has announced that the Spartan World Championship, known for a series of obstacles an athlete overcomes to come out victorious, will be held later this year in Abu Dhabi.
The event will take place from 2 to 5 December at Liwa Desert.
The race will be held outside the United States for the first time, and will also coincide with the UAE's 50th anniversary.
The event will feature three tiers, the Elite Spartan World Championship, the Spartan Team World Championship and the Spartan Kids World Championship.
The championship was supposed to take place in December 2020 but has been pushed to 2021 due to the ongoing pandemic.
Joe De Sena, Spartan Founder and CEO said, "The 2021 Spartan season is well underway, and our athletes are back with a vengeance. We cannot wait to create a whole new experience for our global community as we travel to the desert for the most epic World Championship in Spartan history, at a time when it is most needed."
