Traditional Sailing Festival To Return

The Abu Dhabi Sailing and Yacht Club has announced that the fourth Dalma Traditional Sailing Festival will be held from 18 to 22 May.

The event will be held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative of the Al Dhafra region.

The event will be organised by the Abu Dhabi Culture and Heritage Festivals and Programs Management Committee along with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and is sponsored by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, Al Masoud Motors and Dalma Cooperative Society.

A 60 foot dhow race will be the highlight of the sailing festival and will cover a distance of 125 kilometres.

The first 100 boats to cross the finishing line will receive a split prize fund of Dhs 25 million. 

The first-place winner will win Dhs 1.5 million, the second winner will receive Dhs 1.1 million and a car with the third-place winner will receive Dhs 900,000 as well as a car.

The race will start at Dalma Island and will pass through Sir Baniyas, Ghasha, Umm Al Turcom, Al Fatayer, Al Bazm, Marawah and Janana, ending at Al Mirfa city. 

Registration is currently open for sailors up until 9 May on the Abu Dhabi Sailing and Yacht Club. The event will follow all precautionary and safety protocols.
