The UAE has given a fee waiver to 1,850 children of frontline workers to study in any public school in the country.
Selected students will also study free of cost this academic year.
A new scholarship programmed called Hayyakum has also been launched as a joint initiative between the Ministry of Education and the Frontline Heroes Office.
The programme will reward scholarship holders of different nationalities with free laptops and no payment of bus fare until they graduate from high school.
Hayyakum aims to encourage long-term retention of frontline healthcare workers in the UAE by reducing schooling costs.
His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, chairman of the board of the Frontline Heroes Office, said: “Our frontline professionals are the true heroes of the UAE and we thank them from the bottom of our hearts.”
“We wish their children every success as they embark upon a new school year and we look forward to watching them follow in their parents’ footsteps to become outstanding members of society.”
Other education-focused initiatives for children will be launched in the future.
Applications for the scholarships are open until 30 September.
