New Resolution Makes It Compulsory For Homeowners To Instal Fire Detectors

The UAE Cabinet, under the chairmanship of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, approved a new Resolution on Saturday that requires homeowners to instal fire detectors and subscribe to the civil defence e-system.

All homeowners of existing residences and those to be constructed are obligated by the new Resolution to instal fire detectors and subscribe to the e-system of the General Directorate of Civil Defence.

The Resolution stipulates that all federal or local governments involved in the issuing of licences for the construction of residential homes need to ensure that proper fire detectors are installed and that the owner has subscribed to the e-system, before granting completion certificates.

Owners of existing homes will also be granted a period of up to three years from the issuance of the Resolution to amend conditions according to the new outlined provisions.

The federal and local governments will bear the costs of installing fire detectors for homeowners with limited income, and for those who receive social assistance from the Ministry of Community Development.

The Resolution highlights the government’s effort and the leadership’s keenness to provide the highest level of public safety, and to protect society from fire hazards as well as loss of life and property.

The Ministry of Interior, through the Civil Defence Departments, will carry out the provisions of the Resolution and cooperate with all concerned parties to facilitate implementation at all levels.
