New Food Testing Lab Launched At Dubai Fruits And Vegetable Market

An on-site laboratory, which will help test pesticide residues in produce, is now open at Dubai’s largest fruit and vegetable market in Al Warsan.

The food testing lab of the Dubai Central Laboratory (DCL) will conduct electronic tests on fruit, vegetables, milk, grains, honey, spices and rice.

Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality, who inaugurated the new facility, said: "We are always striving to develop our services to keep pace with recent scientific developments in the fields of testing in general, and testing of food products in particular. This is done to ensure that they are free from any contaminants or materials that violate the UAE and international standards for food products.”

The lab is equipped with the latest technologies and advanced specialised devices that will help detect insecticide residues.

“We are always striving to develop our services to keep pace with recent scientific developments in the fields of testing in general, and testing of food products in particular, to ensure that they are free from any contaminants or materials that violate the UAE and international standards for food products,” said Al Hajri.

The lab will be the first of its kind in the UAE, and will help provide services to food suppliers in Dubai while enhancing consumer confidence in products available in the market.
