Amendments to the Labour Law have been approved by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, that gives employees within the private sector paid leave to care for their new born child.
The new amendment allows all private sector employees paid "parental leave" for five working days to care for their new born child, that can be taken any time from the due date up until the child is six months old.
Previously no paid paternal leave was in place for a new born child's father, who now gets five days paid leave under the amendments.
The UAE will be the first Arab country to grant parental leave to employees in the private sector, and is the latest benefit for employees in the private sector.
