His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has officially inaugurated Route 2020, the Dubai Metro extension.
Route 2020, which opens to the public in September this year, is the extension of the Dubai Metro Red Line, that connects the transport system with the Expo 2020 site.
At a cost of Dhs 11 billion, Route 2020 is over 15km in length and includes 7 stations, the interchange with the Red Line at Jebel Ali Station, the Expo 2020 Station and 5 further stations in between, 2 underground and 3 overground, with one of these being the largest metro station on the Dubai Metro network at Jumeirah Golf Estates.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed took to Twitter and posted a video of the inauguration.
The extension takes the full length of the Dubai Metro to over 90km.
