Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has started the implementation of ‘Tech Taxi’.
Tech Taxis provide free WiFi in Dubai taxis and a package of digital services to taxi passengers.
Once connected to the WiFi, the passenger can log-on to www.taxiconnect.ae to access an array of digital services included in the package.
Some of the services will allow the rider to track the path of the journey and share the map with their relatives. Riders can check the current market exchange rates converting UAE Dirhams to various other currencies, and can also rate the driver and ride satisfaction levels.
"This initiative is the first of its kind worldwide. It offers a range of consolidated digital services under one link. It epitomises the keenness of Dubai Government to realise the Smart City initiative as well as several strategic goals of RTA namely: Smart Dubai, People Happiness and Advance RTA", says Khaled Al Awadi, Director of Transportation Systems at RTA’s Public Transport Agency.
RTA has now been focusing on digitalising its services and by mid September half the RTA fleet of taxis will be available to book through the 'Hala' option on Careem app.
