Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) is back with its witty sense of humour to reply to all those parents and students ringing up schools and the authority asking if 1 September is the first day of school or not.
The confusion arises as earlier this month it was announced that there will be a public holiday on the first day of Muharram to observe the Islamic New Year. Even though, it is expected to fall on Sunday, 1 September; the exact date depends upon the moon sighting. We are still awaiting for the final confirmation, as are are a lot of parents and students around town.
In response, the KHDA tweeted, “Do you know what’s funny? School hasn’t even started yet and students are asking us for the first day off! Do you know what’s even funnier? The answer might be yes! We’ll let you know as soon as we do."
