Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched the operation of 94 medium-size buses on 17 routes, 8 existing routes and 9 new routes. These buses are compatible with European Emission Standards (Euro 5), light in weight and are low on fuel consumption.
The launch of the new buses is aligned with the aim to raise “the percentage of public transport journeys to 26% by 2030”, which would require a wide geographical coverage.
These new buses will operate on low-demand routes, and routes serving residential areas which do not require the operation of large buses. The will also serve new districts and widen the geographical coverage of the public transport network.
A medium sized bus by Optare can seat 32 passengers, has capacity to accommodate 9 standing, has one seat designated for “people of determination.” and has a low-floor entry door for this. The bus also includes LED destination boards, internet service (Wi-Fi) and USB charging ports.
“The delivery of the new batch of buses is part of RTA’s masterplan to improve public transport in Dubai and keep pace with the top international standards”, says HE Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
