Major landmarks in Dubai were lit in up red, white and blue last night to celebrate the 121st Philippines Independence Day.
Thousands of Filipinos were at the foot of the the worlds tallest building, the 828 metre high Burj Khalifa, as it was lit up from top to bottom at 9.40pm with the colours of the Philippines flag for the first time. Also to mark the occasion Dubai Festival City also projected in full colours of the Philippines flag.
The UAE is home to over 700,000 Filipinos and has strong ties with the Philippines and on the occasion of Philippines Independence Day, UAE leaders sent messages of congratulations to the President of the Philippines.
Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minster of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces all wrote to President Rodrigo Duterte with congratulatory messages.
