On Saturday, 4 May, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, ordered the release of 587 prisoners of different nationalities from Dubai prisons ahead of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
Attorney General of Dubai, Chancellor Essam Issa Al Humaidan, said that His Highness’s order to pardon the prisoners will bring happiness to their families, and help the pardoned prisoners get a fresh start in life and once again become a part of community.
The Public Prosecution has commenced the legal procedures to implement Sheikh Mohammed’s order.
Ahead of Ramadan, the rulers of other emirates in the UAE have also ordered the release of inmates who showed good conduct during their sentences.
His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE ordered the release of 3,005 prisoners from Abu Dhabi jails.
His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, ordered the release of 377 prisoners.
His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah released 306 inmates.
His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, has ordered the release of 120 prisoners.
An unspecified number was also released in Umm Al Quwain by His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Umm Al Quwain.
