Good news for metro commuters who have been taking the shuttle bus service to Ibn Battuta for over a year now.
Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that it will reopen the metro link between the DMCC metro station, earlier known as Jumeirah Lakes Tower metro station, and UAE Exchange station from Friday, 19 April. The metro will now travel through to the last station on the Red Line, UAE Exchange.
The section of the Red Line was closed on 5 January, 2018 as part of the Expo 2020 construction project, which included the construction of a new metro station, and linking it with the Nakheel Harbour and Tower station, which will be directly linked to the Expo 2020 site.
Until the link is resumed, commuters can continue to use the free shuttle bus service.
However, Nakheel Harbour and Tower station, and the attached car park, will remain closed until further notice.
Mohammed Yousef Al Mudharreb, director of Rail Operations at RTA's Rail Agency, says, “The RTA always endeavours to expand and upgrade Dubai public transport network, including the Metro, which has become the ideal daily mobility option for numerous residents, tourists and visitors to the emirate from all over the world.”
