Joining the brigade of world famous buildings including the Sydney Opera House, the London Eye and the Empire State Building in New York, that turn green to mark Saint Patrick’s Day each year, the iconic Burj Khalifa was lit up with green laser lights this weekend, to show support and inclusiveness to the Irish expat community in the UAE.
The annual Irish festival is big all over the world and the expat community in the UAE will be celebrating the festival on Sunday, 17 March.
More than 370 monuments, stadiums, museums, and towers around the world will be turned green to mark the occasion.
Aidan Cronin, Ireland’s ambassador to the UAE said, “We are delighted to welcome additional significant landmarks this year - especially the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. Following the lifting last year of visa requirements for UAE nationals when visiting Ireland, UAE residents are finding themselves drawn to the natural beauty and rich heritage of Ireland.”
