The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that it will be mandatory for all vehicles in Dubai to change to the new style number plates. From January 2019 all new cars registered in Dubai will be issued with the new style plates, and throughout the year privately owned cars will be issued with the new plates at renewal of registration.
The new design was created for a number of reasons, including standardising the design that incorporates the code, number and the Dubai brand, and also to allow space for the RTA to begin issuing dual code plates, as the single code allocation is almost at capacity.
There is a one off cost of between Dhs 35 for a short plate and Dhs 50 for the long plate, however there is the option to include coloured lettering at a cost of Dhs 400.
