UAE Satellite Captures Iconic Photo From Space

Last month, the first ever completely Emirati-made satellite, KhalifaSat was launched. Taking off into space from Tanegashima Space Centre in Japan, the satellite’s purpose is to capture images of Earth from space. KhalifaSat’s first image was of Palm Jumeirah and its latest is even more iconic.

The image was taken as the satellite was passing over the UAE from its 'Low-Earth Orbit' at approximately 613km. The image is of the late founder of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and was part of the "Year of Zayed" logo sent by KhalifaSat to the ground station at the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre in Dubai.
