A competition for secondary school students in the UAE will see them consider the peaceful and practical uses for nuclear energy. Students between the ages of 14 and 18 are invited to propose their ideas to the International Atomic Energy Agency alongside the Ministry of Education. The competition is in line with the 2015 initiative, UN Sustainable Development Goal and was launched in Vienna on Saturday with a deadline for entries of 30 September.
UAE Permanent Representative at the IAEA, Ambassador Hamad Alkaabi said “The Government places top priority on empowering our young people and building their capability to lead the future,”
“The competition objective is to promote nuclear science and to strengthen the sense of responsibility among the youth.”
The National Nuclear Science for Development Student Competition will see nine semi-finalists facing a second round in which they will present their projects to a jury for judging. The winning team will be announced on November 7.
