The Dubai World Cup is a massive event in Dubai. But now, the stakes are even higher. HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has now added Dhs 8 million to the winnings of the main race. This makes the prize a total of Dhs 44 million, as opposed to the original Dhs 36 million. This is the first time that the prize money has changed since the first event in 1996.
The Dubai Media Office made the announcement yesterday
Last year’s winner, Thunder Snow, was ridden by Christophe Soumillion, trained in the UAE and owned by Saeed bin Suroor. The win marked Godolphin’s, founded by HH Sheikh Mohammed, 7th win at the tournament as well as Saeed bin Suroor’s 8th win.
