The commute on Sheikh Zayed Road (SZR) is about to get just that little bit more expensive soon.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a new Salik gate will open in Jebel Ali, on Sheikh Zayed Road just after Ibn Batutta Mall, on October 24th.
The new toll gate will open when construction work of a bridge on Al Yalayis Street leading to Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road is completed.
It is anticpated that the new toll gate will take motorists off Sheikh Zayed Road, and encourage them to use the alternate route of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Road which opened in 2016, eventually easing traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road by 25%.
The toll gate has been set only on one side of the highway going towards Abu Dhabi. Once operational, it will be the third toll on Sheikh Zayed Road and the seventh in Dubai.
The other tolls are Al Safa (SZR), Al Barsha (SZR), Al Garhoud Bridge, Al Maktoum Gate, Airport Tunnel Gate and Mamzar Gate.
According to the report, the new toll gate is estimated to generate more than Dhs 300 million in annual revenues. This will be added to the estimated Dhs 2 billion annual revenues generated by the Salik gates in Dubai.
