Dubai Police issued a public statement on its official Facebook page to confirm that they arrested someone for posting a video of a man crying at a RTA customer care centre.
The video went viral over the weekend after the suspect posted the video on multiple social media platforms. The relevant authorities have been notified to take legal action against him.
Roads and Transport Authorities (RTA) said that the man was at the main offices of Cars Taxi when he was filmed, but did not work for the company.
"He was obtaining information about a Dhs 20,000 fines that has accumulated against one of his relatives. Investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fines that accumulated against his relative,” the RTA said.
Dubai Police also warned residents not to take photos and videos of other people without first requesting their permission, as doing so is a crime punishable by law. According to Federal Decree Law No. 5 of 2012 of the Cybercrime Law, residents who breach the privacy of others can face a hefty fine between Dhs 150,000 and Dhs 500,000, in addition to at least one year in jail.
